Ruellia simplex - Mexican Petunia is part of the Acanthaceae family. We inherited another tortoise this Summer and her caregiver recommended Mexican Petunia. Now, I am a Type A nature lover (lol) and took a picture of what I had in my yard to make sure we were talking about the same flower. That’s why I keep stating the scientific name for each plant. There are a number of plants that go by the same common names, but different scientific names. Before I even consider what I feed our tortoises, I need to know the scientific name for safety.
