Oenothera elata var. hirsutissima- Hooker’s Evening Primrose. This flower is a member of the Onagraceae Family. Have you ever sat in the evening to see the blossoms open? If you have, you would see nighttime “hummingbirds” pollinating them. These pollinators are Sphinx moths and can be mistaken as hummingbirds in the night. It is a treasured event for us to be able to witness Nature’s delight in the woods. There is a defining relationship of flowers and pollinators, both daytime and nighttime. In all these things, take the time to understand Nature. Ask permission. Listen. Learn. Become inspired.
