Galium aparine-Common Bedstraw is part of the Rosaceae (Rose) family. If you are walking out there in the woods too quickly, you will miss this fine gem. What I appreciate about Galium aparine is how she informs me about water. Back in June, I didn’t see much of anything, unless I hiked a little higher. This one blooms from February to May. You might say I missed my chance, but it really told me how dry the woods were at that time. After the rains, Galium aparine just popped up everywhere! They are now in bloom. Plants tell you stories and this is why we need to let them be and come to visit them from time to time. Pollinators also need these flowers, no matter how tiny.

Monarda citriodora var. austromontana- Beebalm is part of the Lamiaceae family (mint family). Over the years, I have been watching a patch that has been growing nearby. Sadly, this year, it is gone. With the rains coming in, I was happy to find this one again at a different location. If you find this one, let it be. It needs to thrive again in its own environment. Pollinators are relying on more flowers this season, after the fire last year. Lucky for you, you can grow this in a garden at home from a reliable native seed company. In the wild, they must be left alone. Admire with your eyes. Take pictures. Make memories. Respect the sacred. This is a Summer to replenish what was taken away. Go take your Nature walks and only take pictures. Enjoy Mother Nature and make memories.
